Eros the God of "Love" (Assignment for Wed, Feb 28)

First Click here and read this short article on the mytho-psycho origin of the god that became that cute little winged angel we see on Valentine's Day

Second Absorb the article by doing one of the following: take very careful notes on the Eros article; or out line the Eros article; or write a paragraph condensing as much of the information in the Eros article as you can.

Third Post your notes, outline, or paragraph summary of the Eros article on your blog, along with artistic depictions of Eros that you find on the internet. For the pictures in my post I googled "Greek Eros" and then clicked on "images" in the google window. It's not important, however you do it. ***I will be reading blogs to check that this is done.

Fourth Analyze the song "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash in terms of what you discovered reading the Eros article. Look for similarities, differences, metaphors of Eros and the function of Eros, and write your findings (by hand) next to the lyrics.

Fifth Come to class on Wednesday ready to discuss what you've discovered and analyzed.

As they say in airports "thank you for your understanding." I know this assignment looks involved, but I think you will find it more fun/interesting than difficult. At the very least you'll never look at Valentines Day the same way again.
